STATUS CUOMO MEANS MORE OF THE SAME COMING FROM ALBANY

Reclaim New York Initiative responds to Governor Cuomo’s litany of new taxes

“After listening to his budget address, New Yorkers must be wondering if Andrew Cuomo confused math class with English. Heavy on rhetoric, it was more political posturing than a comprehensive spending plan.

“Sprinkling in $1 billion in new education funding, $750 million in repeat – failed – economic development spending, and millions more for a power plant ‘mitigation fund,’ and the Governor has arrived at a budget – complete with a $4 billion spending increase. Cuomo’s budget also tacks on an extra $1.3. billion in ‘revenue actions,’ cuts funding from local municipalities, extends the state’s small business tax, and is topped off with $15 billion in new revenue taken straight from the pockets of metro-area commuters.

“All the new taxes and fees – more than just the politically advantageous ones he talked about – mean greater Albany driven spending and higher costs to taxpayers.  The Governor’s focus on style over substance might leave taxpayers wondering where his focus really lies. We just want to know how the Governor gets the math to all add up.”
