Action Alert: Save Elmira from the 17% tax increase
Few places in New York have been hit harder by economic struggles and the affordability crisis than Elmira. As a result, families and businesses have had to make tough decisions and many have left.
Government must make tough decisions too. The city can’t keep passing the buck to taxpayers and making it even more difficult for families and businesses to thrive.
Here’s What You Need to Know:
- The Elmira City government announced a planned 17% tax increase for their 2018 budget. This would smash through the 2% percent cap on property tax hikes and increase costs for families and businesses that can’t afford it.
- Elmira citizens have already faced 7 tax increases in 9 years. This is a sign spending is unsustainable and long-term planning is weak.
- The city has faced serious struggles as the economy shrunk by 10% in less than a decade. The way to spark the economy and help families build a future is not with another big tax hike.
Here’s What You Can Do:
Call or email your Elmira City Councilmember and tell them: Vote NO on the 17% tax increase!
