Cuomo Bridge Outrage: Residents Strongly Disapprove of Renaming, Hidden Toll Hike Information
Media advisory: Reclaim New York Initiative executive director Brandon Muir, and Regional Director Dom Cocchiara are available to comment following the Governor’s event opening the new Tappan Zee bridge today. The following statement can be attributed to Brandon Muir:
“It’s absurd for the Governor to be bragging about opening the new Tappan Zee bridge, when everything from the toll increase to renaming it has been closed off from the very people who will have to pay for it all.
“The back-room, abusive process that renamed the bridge was closed. The toll price hike and costs for all Thruway drivers are being hidden. There is still no public plan showing how commuters and taxpayers will pay for this massive $4 billion cost. It’s a disgrace.
“This is why Westchester and Rockland residents are disgusted with the Governor shoving his father’s name on the bridge. A scientific poll shows 70 percent disapprove of the bridge being renamed before they know how much the toll will cost them, and 54 percent disapprove of renaming the bridge after former Governor Mario Cuomo.
“The Governor should stop using this bridge to shamelessly promote himself and start providing real answers to the people footing the bill.”
