Action Alert: Stop Suffolk County’s Unaffordable, Unauthorized Fees.
Instead of doing their jobs, Suffolk County officials want to force you to pay for their bad budgeting. They’re pushing $50 million in unaffordable, unconstitutional, unauthorized fees. It’s unreal.
They could have learned from their neighbor Nassau’s big budget mistakes, but Suffolk officials are following the same road to ruin.
Here’s what you need to know:
- Fee increases don’t work. Just last year, Suffolk County’s fee increases fell short of revenue promises by over $12 million.
- Abusing fees to grab revenue isn’t even legal under the New York State Constitution, according to the State Comptroller.
- The County is hinging their entire bloated $3 billion budget on unauthorized taxes.
The Suffolk County Executive and legislators are building a ticking budget time bomb and expecting taxpayers to pick up the mess when it explodes.
Suffolk residents must take control. A step toward doing that is passing a new 2-percent cap on fee increases.
Here’s how you can make a difference:
1 – Volunteer with Reclaim New York Initiative to make this new cap on fees a reality. E-mail info@reclaimnynow.org to get involved today!
2 – Call your legislator NOW, and tell them to support capping fee increases. Click here to find your Legislator.

I’m ready to leave long island and go south. The taxes and fees are killing me. When I reached 65, the town of Islip reduced my taxes $1,000 but 2 months later increased them $280.00. I’m still paying $8,800 for a 3bd rm ranch.
When is this going to stop. Now Cuomo is offering free college. Who’s going to pay for that. I drove over the Verrazzano Narrows bridge last month and that was $15.00 and that’s just 1 bridge. Where is that money going.
Most of us know what we NEED to do on long Island to reduce our tax burden: #1 Consolidate School Districts, eliminate County Government, let the towns take over much of what the county does, and in most cases are already doing (outside of Police Services). Get the Suffolk PD OFF STATE ROADS, let the state (which we are already paying for) police their roads. Like I said most of us know this, but when it comes to actually voting to make these things happen Long Islanders become their own worse enemies. Sad, but very true. Good luck doing anything about this in our life time!! Hopefully our children and grandchild will be a lot smarter than we were!!
Could you possibly give specific examples of what fee increases you are referring to? I can’t/won’t fight want I don’t know
